Today's picture's settings are a bit off but I was in a hurry to buy yeast and deliver it to my personal baker so I could have fresh buns and Nutella* for supper. (and the sun was almost gone...procrastination)
Anyway, at yeast...er, at least I got one shot. This photo shows the last rays of light on a quiet corner in my Brabrand neighborhood. Not much happens after 6 or 7 pm. Notice the words on the lower level shop window. Fod Terapi. Foot Therapy. We have a multitude of auto repair shops; Danes have foot repair shops. And isn't it impressive that even the foot repair shop is charming? To this American eye anything in Denmark can seem charming & cute. But is it too cute?
Which brings me to The Truman Show. When mixed with non-danes I was confronted with criticism. Not criticism of native lands in comparison to Denmark's cuteness, but criticism of Denmark! I was appalled. The foreigners' disparagement was of Denmark's organization. Everything is just a little too perfect. Once acknowledged (Glass Shattering--How I Met Your Mother reference), this revelation temporarily spoiled my view of the cute, neat buildings. I could only see practical patterns, robbed of their personality. Everything real numbed by a state of sensible design. I was left in an eerie state of The Truman Show.
(*Nutella: Look forward to "Why does America hate Nutella" sometime in the future.)
