I finally found a new home for my dear orphaned hamster. I snagged a used cage at one of the many hipstery second-hand shops of Portland. The elation of finding an inexpensive cage fogged the fact that I had ridden my bicycle. Trying to maneuver a hamster cage (in addition to the additional purchase: breakable espresso cup & saucer set) on a bicycle (even with basket) is not possible. Even if you think you can sit on the cage while pedaling through city traffic. You can not. Even if you think you can wedge or tie or balance the cage in front of you while hanging the porcelain cups from your handlebars (while pedaling through city traffic). You can not.
I gave in and bussed it home.
Just in time, for as I prepared an early morning fødselsdag (birthday) breakfast for my birthday boy, I was delighted with tiny hamster kisses on my bare toes. We hadn't yet cleaned the new cage, and therefore had neglected to make the big move. Hamster-Pants (not yet officially named) voiced his dissent by scaling the walls of his (or her?) double box temp-home and leaving me with no other choice.
what a cutie.
