Day 303: Where does it come from?

You know why I've been gone. No explanation needed & Thank you for understanding.

Now, I've been conspicuosly carting my tiny video camera. Meaning photos are few but film overfloweth .
Today. A very special film. (Though not filmed by me...) It not only explains a tiny tad of my absence (educational obligations) but also shares an itty-bitty tickle of a few special folks.
And commodity chains are scary.*  They inspire guilt and consumption remorse. Most things I eat and use are stained with blood, or at least a few thousand miles of wasted energy. Life is silly and sucky. I've found all that darkness and criticism just makes a big ugly storm. Jayne and Jens will save the world with song. For my weapon, the search continues.

Enjoy my beautiful friends. And look forward to more blogging on the successes of these two brilliant bulbs.
(Oh, and I've printed their lyrics below) ps,  'jumper' is Australian for 'shirt' or is it 'sweater' ?...

Everything has a story to tell
It doesn’t start on a supermarket shelf
Your tea, your coffee, your chocolate, your textbook, this guitar
Your jeans, your jumper, your lunch… where does it start?
Where does it all come from?

This guitar was made in Finland
From mostly renewable Finnish wood
We think the body is birch and the bridge is Ebony
Or maybe rosewood, it wasn’t clear to see…
But it’s assembled in Finland.

Like me the frets might come from Australia
We produce a lot of nickel for the world
But then it could come from Russia tooo
AS it’s just next door, wouldn’t that make sense?
Coz it’s made in Finland.

Everything has a story to tell
It doesn’t start on a supermarket shelf
Your tea, your coffee, your chocolate, your textbook, this guitar
Your jeans, your jumper, your lunch… where does it start?
Where does it all come from?

This guitar has parts from all around the world
Stainless steel, plastic, marble or pearl
The strings are phosphor bronze manufactured in the States
Bought in Sweden transported all across vast space
That’s where it comes from!

Everything’s got a story to tell
It doesn’t start on a supermarket shelf
Commodity Fetishism Asymmetrical Exchange
Appropriating time and space economically arranged..

So the next time… you buy…
Think where it comes from!

*The short and dirty: Ecosystems are raped.  People are horribly exploited for something as seemingly innocent as my, say, pencil sharpener.  Slavery still exists, hiding behind new names. Sadly, it is/seems nearly impossible to really know how [morally] foods and products made it to our hands; how many other hands and lands they've passed through??? Backyard rock soup anyone???
